KPV  SINCE 1930

FC KPV made miracles,
“brought Kokkola into the map of Finland”

Let it flow;

Our river Sunti was flowing stronger and broader back then when KPV, the football club of Kokkola, was founded in October 1930. But the Sunti wasn’t the only thing in the minds of those young men who in the Maxim Cafeteria located in Isokatu made the decision of establishing a new club. They wanted to create a chance for the minority of finnish speaking boys of Kokkola in those days to let off their energy for and behalf of wholly own society. This very event lead to a career which most of the finnish football clubs are just capable of dreaming about. These  crucial achievements in the following speak for themselves.

1930's

During the first decade  KPV went through a phase of searching its own place and position and building the framework. What is remarkable is that even in the circumstances back in 1938 KPV had the junior area of operation in full activity. The records namely tell us about the line-ups where certain names can be picked out: B-junior team; Olli Dahlström (Telimaa) and Jukka Uunila.

1940’s was a decade of the great wars and a period of healing the wounds. KPV was emphasising mainly just on junior activities in the beginning of this decade – having for example the coming (county)governor Antti Pohjonen in the group. Before the twentieth year of function KPV had created a team that was known also in the Southern Finland and a team whose players were  admired of and interesting also to the clubs around the Finlands capital, Helsinki. In those days team was fighting for the leading positions in old finnish series.

1950's

Operations of the next decade can be described considerably quiet in terms of great successes. There was a slight downhill and KPV dropped all the way to the provincial division to take again a new and strong start. But still there were  individuals worth of naming especially Hannu Vainio in the Finnish national team above all. In the end of the decade efficient junior operations started to bear fruit on national level when A -juniors achieved their first Finnish Championship bronze medals to Kokkola in 1956.

1960's

The first years of 60’s brought an idea to some of the KPV members’ head that something must be done in terms of enjoying the fruits of the own junior work. The iron hard spirit of solidarity and holding to the made decisions lead to a rise to the league. This was followed by a great success story of the A-juniors; Finnish Championship bronze medal 1965, Finnish Champion 1967, Finnish Championship silver medal 1968 and Finnish Champion 1969. This was enough to prove that in 1969 the boys were grown to men who then won the Finnish Champion.

1970's

Thanks to the excellent junior function the next few decades were also quite flourishing. Men increased the glory of their display cabinet with a Finnish Championship silver medal and with two Finnish Championship bronze medals in 1970’s. Additionally the A-juniors achieved Finnish Championship bronze  in 1974 as did the younger fellows in 1975. Juniors continued their great success also in the Technique skills –competition at Finnish Championship level. Almost in every year KPV juniors gained medals and in best year one could find even five KPV players in the junior national team.

1980-luku

1980’s was a period of plodding on between the 1st division and the champions league. The teaching on this decade was something else than thriving and a high price was paid for this low pressure during the next one. The club went through economical troubles as a result of many factors. Still the junior work was a cause for delight which  kept teams from year to another in the national elite.

1990-luku

The club’s name was changed to KPV-j after getting deeper into debt in 90’s. Junior coaches took a huge responsibility at this stage and in fact their work even got a needed stimulation despite the chaotic situation in the financial sector. The representative team played in the 1st and 2nd division.
